PHL hosts ACWC Consultation to address violence against women and children

The event will highlight current trends, new initiatives and good practices from around the world on minimum standards for services to women and child survivors of violence.

The Consultation will tackle traditional and emerging forms of VAW and girls, interrelatedness of VAC and discrimination, use of human rights framework in addressing VAW and VAC, monitoring the implementation of laws, and mapping out actions to be taken by ACWC at the national and regional level.

The two-day consultation is jointly organized by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), in partnership with the UN Women, Canadian International Development Agency and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Philippine representatives to the ACWC for women’s and children’s rights are Professor Aurora Javate-De Dios and Social Welfare and Development Undersecretary Alicia Bala respectively.

The functions of the ACWC are, among others, to promote the implementation of international instruments, ASEAN instruments and other instruments related to the rights of women and children, and to develop policies, programs and innovative strategies to promote and protect the rights of women and children to complement the building of the ASEAN Community. It would also promote public awareness and education of the rights of women and children in ASEAN.
