PCW to present WPLA for the 16th Congress


The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), the lead agency for women’s empowerment and gender equality is set to present the Women’s Priority Legislative Agenda (WPLA) for the 16th Congress, on September 11, 2013 at the Sulo Riviera Hotel in Quezon City.

The WPLA seeks to repeal discriminatory provisions of existing laws as well as formulate and adopt new legislations that promote women’s empowerment and gender equality.

The proposed legislative measures are primarily anchored on the Magna Carta of Women (MCW) and the Philippine Plan for Gender-Responsive Development (PPGD), as well as the Philippine Government’s international commitments such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).

Included in the list are amendments to provisions of the Revised Penal Code, the Family Code and the Sexual Harassment Law, as well as the proposal to enact a Magna Carta of Workers in the Informal Economy.

Legislators, civil society organizations and other stakeholders are expected to attend the event.
