DAR Aklan Joins One Billion Rising to End VAW

The words of Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer Eberardo Erispe struck the hearts of the participants on Valentine’s Day when he said “Before, I seldom rise. I was contented to just sit down and watch as others rise. But on Vday, I am rising not only as a matter of privilege but as a matter of obligation.” He further vowed to rise in solidarity, purpose and energy to end violence against women, girls and children. All this in pursuit of justice, peace and gender equality.

Mr. Erispe led the employees of DAR Aklan in the global campaign of One Billion Rising (OBR) to end abuses against women and children. A forum was attended by DAR Aklan employees while DAR Asst Director for Admin, Regina Caspillo provided inputs on DAR GAD programs, Ms. Jenny Elmaco, Philippine Commission on Women (PCW AECID) project manager also challenged the employees to speak up and be a part of the growing women’s network calling to end violence against women.

The Men Opposed to Violence against Women (MOVE) DAR Aklan Chapter also affirmed their commitment to Never to commit VAW, Speak Out against VAW, and Never to Condone VAW.

Together with the thousands of Aklanon women, men, girls and boys, the employees joined the OBR march and street dancing in Kalibo as the culmination of the activity. DAR-Aklan is a major player and an active member of the Aklan Gender and Development Commission (AGADC) chaired by Governor Carlito Marquez of Aklan.
