PCW to hold its first Regional Gender and Development Council Summit

With the goal of raising awareness of Regional Development Councils’ (RDC) roles and responsibilities in the localization of the Magna Carta of Women (MCW), the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) will be holding its first Regional Gender and Development Council (RGADC) Summit on August 14-15 at Oracle Hotel in Quezon City.

Aside from awareness-raising, the summit also intends to identify partnership strategies and convergence mechanisms to strengthen collaboration between regional mechanisms and PCW on gender mainstreaming at the local level

Said activity also serves as the venue to orient RDCs and RGADCs on relevant and most recent gender and development (GAD)-related policies, guidelines and tools that must be implemented and utilized at the regional and local levels.

The 1st RGADC Summit will bring together the chairpersons or co-chairpersons of all the 17 RDCs in the country. Chairpersons and one member from the eight existing RGADCs are also expected in the Summit.

National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Director General Arsenio M. Balisacan will grace the said summit as the keynote speaker. Last year, PCW together with NEDA, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Department of Budget and Management (DBM) issued a Joint Memorandum Circular 2013-01 or the Guidelines on the Localization of the MCW

The RGADC Summit is part of the Commission’s commitment in implementing and localizing the MCW, especially that August 14 also marks the 5th year anniversary of the passage of MCW, a landmark law on women’s rights.
