PCW, IRRI and DA join hands to promote Women in Agriculture

The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), in partnership with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and the Department of Agriculture (DA), will hold the first “Women in Rice Farming” Open Dialogue and Exhibit on August 8, 2013 at IRRI headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna.

The event will gather leaders from different sectors and will showcase exhibits on state of the art rice technologies, IRRI’s contribution on Gender and Development (GAD), climate change and environmental sustainability.

IRRI Board of Trustees Chairperson Emerlinda Roman, DA Undersecretary Berna Romulo-Puyat, Senators Cynthia Villar, Pia Cayetano and Grace Poe-Llamanzares, and veteran journalists Maria Ressa and Tina Monzon-Palma are expected to attend the event.

The aim of this event is to highlight the crucial role of women and their contributions to agriculture.

“Women in Rice Farming” is one of the highlights of the celebration of the National Year of Rice 2013 as declared by the Philippine government.
