PCW conducts regional consultations on the MCW IRR

The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) formerly the National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women (NCRFW) will conduct a series of regional consultations among different stakeholders on the draft Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of RA 9710 or the Magna Carta of Women (MCW) on November 26 in Manila, December 1 in Cotabato City, December 3 in Davao City and December 4 in Cebu City.

The island cluster consultations aim to generate inputs and recommendations from stakeholders and program implementers from regional line departments, local government units, non-government organizations (NGOs), civil society groups, local media groups and private sectors from the different geographic areas of the country, to enhance the draft MCW IRR.

“According to the MCW which was signed by the President on August 14, 2009 and came into effect on September 15, 2009, the implementing rules and regulations shall be formulated within 180 days after effectivity. So we hope to be able to finalize the IRR by March and launch it on March 8, 2010, National Women’s Day Celebration,” says PCW Chairperson Myrna Yao.
