MMDA conducts forum on landmark women’s law on its 37th year


Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) Executive Director Emmeline L. Verzosa discusses the salient features and provisions of the Magna Carta of Women (MCW, RA 9710) during the 37th Anniversary of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) held on November 6, 2012.

As part of its 37th anniversary, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) conducted a half-day forum on the Magna Carta of Women (R.A 9710) on November 6.

The forum was aimed at raising the awareness and understanding of MMDA staff not only on the MCW but also on gender equality concerns.

In her message, Ruby Baltazar, Chief of the MMDA-Staff Development Division Administrative Service, stressed that gender equality must “always be promoted” as it is included in the 16-point agenda of President Aquino’s social contract to the people.

Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) Executive Director Emmeline L. Verzosa, the forum’s resource speaker, expressed her appreciation to MMDA’s Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Committee for being “very active” in conducting GAD-related activities and promoting women’s rights. She also reminded the MMDA staff that “as catalysts in accelerating gender mainstreaming in your agency, you have to be more aware of your roles as duty bearers in implementing the MCW.”

In a separate occasion, Undersecretary and MMDA General Manager Corazon Tecson-Jimenez, said she hopes conduct more projects and programs aligned with GAD concerns of the agency.
