Juanas, Juans gear for National Women’s Day simultaneous street dance


More than 15,000 individuals nationwide are gearing to celebrate the 2015 International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8.

The Philippine celebration of the IWD or the 2015 National Women’s Month (NWM) kicks off with a nationwide simultaneous street dance, to echo a united voice and joint move to pay tribute to all women leaders who passionately led and continuously advance women’s advocacies.

At exactly 8:00 AM, participants from Metro Manila which will converge in Quezon Memorial Circle; in synchronicity with other participants from Vigan, Ilocos Sur; Angeles City, Pampanga; Oton, Iloilo; Cebu City; Cagayan De Oro City; Surigao Del Sur; Isulan, Sultan Kudarat; Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte; and Cotabato City will simultaneously jump, step, and shout to enjoin more “Juanas” to stand up and accept the challenge of taking the lead — the core of this year’s National Women’s Month theme “Juana, Desisyon Mo ay Mahalaga sa Kinabukasan ng Bawat Isa, Ikaw Na!”

Philippine Representative to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights Ambassador Rosario G. Manalo and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Juliano-Soliman will grace the event as guest speakers.

The Women’s Day gathering is one of the many activities lined up for the entire month. Other activities include the Forum on Women in Leadership, Power and Decision-Making on March 24 and the Women and Media Summit on March 26.

The NWM is spearheaded annually by the Philippine Commission on Women in cooperation with national government agencies, local government units, civil society organizations, and state universities and colleges.


Free MRT, LRT ride to all Juanas

As the nation pays tribute to “Juana’s” achievements and their vital role in society, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) is granting free rides in Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 and 2 and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) on March 8 from 7:00 am-9:00 am and 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
