Forum on Media and Gender Equality

Gender equality from a broadcaster’s point-of-view. Revered broadcaster Karen Davila presents her paper on “Gender Equality of Women in Asia” during the December 8 Forum on Media and Gender Equality held in Malacañang. She noted that the international community regards Filipino women as more empowered than other Asian women. However, Davila also said a significant number of violence against women (VAW cases) still happen despite strong Philippine laws on women.

The forum was spearheaded by the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) in cooperation with the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) and the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB. It aims to raise the awareness of media practitioners to tackle gender issues and violence against women (VAW) cases and make media users know their power in shaping the media landscape.
