Cong. Leni Robredo to grace 1st Executive Session on GAD for LCE


Camarines Sur 3rd district Representative Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo will grace the first Executive Session on Gender and Development (GAD) for Local Chief Executives (LCE) on August 27, 2013 at La Breza Hotel, Mother Ignacia, Quezon City.

Robredo, the widow of late Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse, is set to share the practices and principles of engendered leadership lead by her husband, who was known to be a champion of good gender-responsive governance.

In 2004, the Naga City, under the leadership of then Mayor Jesse, was recognized as “Women-Friendly City by the United Nations (UN)-Habitat and the UN Development Fund for Women (UNDFW). The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), in 2009, has also recognized the city as the most outstanding VAW Responsive local government unit (LGU).

Congresswoman Leni will speak before 33 governors, vice-governors, mayors, vice-mayors and GAD Focal Persons from six partner provinces namely: Aklan, Albay, Iloilo, Oriental Mindoro, Sarangani and Surigao del Norte.

Meantime, Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro Mayor Hercules Umali and Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) Coordinator General Vicente Sellés Zaragozi are expected to attend the event.

The first Executive Session on GAD for LCE is one of the sub-activities of the PCW – AECID Project that focuses on enhancing capacities of PCW, national agencies and local government partners in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Magna Carta of Women.
