Redesign of the GADtimpala “Liwanag” Trophy
The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) is seeking applications from qualified Filipino women sculptors to redesign the GADtimpala “Liwanag” Trophy—a prestigious national symbol of recognition for exemplary efforts in advancing gender and development (GAD) in the country.
The Gender and Development Transformation & Institutionalization through Mainstreaming of Programs, Agenda, Linkages & Advocacies (GADtimpala) is an awards and incentives mechanism established by PCW under Republic Act No. 9710, or the Magna Carta of Women. Since its launch in 2013, GADtimpala has served as a platform to recognize government agencies, local government units, media, and other institutions that have meaningfully integrated gender perspectives into their policies, programs, and services.
For 2025, the GADtimpala will focus on State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The search will highlight transformative and gender-responsive initiatives in teaching, research, and community engagement that go beyond compliance and demonstrate innovation and inclusivity.
At the heart of the GADtimpala is the “Liwanag” trophy, originally sculpted by Julie Lluch, depicting a graceful yet strong Filipina holding the Pearl of the Orient. As the awards program evolves, so does its visual representation. The redesign of the trophy is envisioned to reflect the enduring values of the GADtimpala—empowerment, inclusivity, and transformation—while drawing creative inspiration from the spirit of the babaylan, a powerful symbol of women’s strength and leadership in Filipino culture.
The selected sculptor will be engaged to create a new and meaningful design that embodies the legacy and future of gender advocacy in the Philippines.
