A Golden Journey Toward Gender Equality: PCW’s Message on Its 50th Founding Anniversary

As we commemorate the 50th founding anniversary of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), we pause to reflect on the golden milestones achieved in our collective pursuit of gender equality and women’s empowerment. 

Established in 1975 as Asia’s first national machinery for women’s rights, PCW has spent five decades unveiling the true worth of Filipino women—precious, resilient, radiant, and integral to our nation’s progress.

Much like miners diligently searching for gold, our journey has been defined by unwavering dedication, resilience, and perseverance through  challenges and triumphs. We have navigated through global pandemics, legislative reforms , and deep-rooted social barriers. Yet, like miners who persistently uncover treasures  beneath  layers of rock, PCW has worked side by side with countless partners—NGOs, civil society organizations, and advocates—breaking down the inequities that have long hindered women’s progress. The treasures we have unearthed  are undeniable: the courage, leadership, and boundless potential  of Filipino women  to create  a brighter future.

This golden anniversary not only celebrates our accomplishments but also serves as a clarion call for continued action. Our mission is far from over.

We must ensure that every Filipino woman, from the remotest corners of our archipelago to the highest echelons of leadership, has the opportunity to shine.

Looking ahead, PCW will introduce a results-based management approach to monitor the effectiveness of Gender and Development (GAD) Plans, budgets, and annual reports. This ensures  that every initiative translates into meaningful  improvements in the lives of women and girls. We will also further strengthen the Human Rights-Based Approach in GAD programs, ensuring that no woman is left behind.

As we mark this golden milestone, we also celebrate the bright future ahead. Together, with the collective support of our partners, we will continue to unearth even greater treasures for our nation – fueled by  collaboration, innovation, and determination to  uplift those who face the greatest challenges.

To every Filipino woman: You are the gold that drives us forward. This 50th anniversary of our journey is a celebration of your strength, your achievements, and the limitless possibilities ahead.

Here’s to another 50 years of PCW — and to the enduring, shining brilliance of Filipinas, whose worth remains the true gold of our nation. Together, let us continue unearthing equality and shaping a brighter, more inclusive, and empowered Bagong Pilipinas for all.
