2010 Women’s Month Celebration kicks-off
Manila – The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), formerly National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women (NCRFW), in collaboration with the city government of Taguig and Dove, leads the 2010 National Women’s Month Celebration Kick-off today at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. The activity aims to raise public awareness on the Magna Carta of Women and celebrate achievements in making women’s rights real.
This year’s theme “Babae, Tagumpay Ka ng Bayan” gives due recognition to women as contributors to nation building and development. Moreover, it underscores the triumphs that women managed to achieve despite the heaps of trials and hindrances.
To signal the start of the month-long celebration, there will be a 30-minute march dubbed as Walk for Women’s Rights which will be led PCW Executive Director Emmeline Verzosa, Taguig City First Lady Kaye Tinga, General Yolanda Tanigue, other government officials and ten ambassadors of Dove, a major sponsor of the event. The Dove Ambassadors consisting of Pia Magalona, Pinky Marquez, Chiqui Hollman Yulo, Timmy Cruz, Raya Mananquil, Susan Campos, Nicole Fonacier, Sara Black, Mariel Santos Po, and Akiko Thomson will be joined by around 5,000 women and men from various government agencies, non-government organizations, local government units, colleges and universities, and private organizations. DSWD Acting Secretary Celia Yangco will deliver the keynote message to the participants.
After the walk, a three-part program intended to intensify the campaign on the Magna Carta of Women and to discuss various issues on women’s rights and concerns will follow at the NBC Tent. It will include talks on the Magna Carta of Women, health, beauty, and wellness, negosyo tips, and livelihood skills training and demonstrations.
