The 2008 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) conducted among women aged 15-49, revealed that one in five women has experienced physical violence since age 15; and one in ten experience sexual violence. Among women who have experienced physical or sexual violence, 26.9% fought back verbally, 21.2% fought back physically, and 17.5% sought help to try to stop the violence.
The GREAT Women Project Regional Partners’ Forum was held on August 16-17 at the Apo View Park Hotel in Davao and on August 31-September 1 at the Century Park Hotel in Manila. Themed Making Women’s Economic Rights Real, the Regional Partners’ Forum also sought LGUs to share applicable lessons and possible project ideas for sustainability.

The Asia Leaders Programme, a Dual Campus Master Programme, is a shared initiative between The Nippon Foundation, the University for Peace, and Ateneo de Manila University. The objective of the programme is to train Asians to become practitioners who will work in the field for peace building. Admitted applicants will be automatically granted full scholarships provided by The Nippon Foundation. A full scholarship includes: tuition fee, the language module, academic materials, air travel and living expenses during the period of studies.

The ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC) was inaugurated during the 16th ASEAN Summit held in Ha Noi, Vietnam last 07 April 2010. The Philippines, through the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Philippine Commission on Women (formerly known as the National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women) has always actively participated in the establishment of the ACWC. It aims to uphold, promote, protect, respect and fulfill the human rights and fundamental freedoms of women and children in the ASEAN.
The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) joins the country in the observance of May 2010 as National Census Month pursuant to Proclamation No. 2028.
The National Statistics Office (NSO), in accordance with Batas Pambansa Blg. 72, is set to conduct the 2010 Census of Population and Housing (CPH) on May. The said census is designed to take an inventory of the total population and housing units in the country and collect information about their characteristics. NSO has been conducting the integrated survey every 10 years since 1980.
The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) sponsored a two-day Partners’ Forum of the GREAT Women Project last February 9-10 at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila in Ortigas Center, Quezon City. The Partners’ Forum themed Patnership and Synergy Towards A GREATer Philippines gathered 246 participants from 12 national government agencies, local government representatives from six partner provinces and two alliances, and more than a dozen non-government organizations who are collectively advancing women’s economic empowerment.
