For 11 consecutive years, the Philippines maintains its position as the lead Asian country in closing the gender gap, according to the 2016 Global Gender Gap Index (GGI) Report released annually by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

The country landed at 7th place among 144 countries in the world and is tied with Slovenia with 0.786 points.

The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), the lead agency that makes government work for the promotion, protection and fulfillment of women’s human rights, gender equality and women’s empowerment, presented the 12 Women’s Priority Legislative Agenda (WPLA) for the 17th Congress on October 18 at the Speaker’s Social Hall, Main Building, House of Representatives in Quezon City.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte appointed Dr. Rhodora T. Masilang-Bucoy as Chairperson of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) effective today. She is set to take her oath of office before the Chief Executive on October 11 in Malacañan Palace, Manila.

“I am deeply honored to serve as Chairperson of the Commission that is mandated to lead in bringing about gender equality and empowerment of the Filipino woman,” Dr. Bucoy said in a statement.
